Changing my online marketplace into a non-profit
Shared by Corina · 22d ago · 5 comments

Hello! This is my first post here. I have been working towards distilling my idea and my goals into what my business will ultimately look like. I joined a great organization called Lunchclub, where I was matched with some amazing people.

I spoke with someone today that opened my eyes to possibly going down the route of becoming a non-profit versus a traditional startup. It aligns with my goal of creating a marketplace for pantry items that are good for you and the planet. I want to make it easy and painless for people to shop with their hearts and vote with their dollars.

More importantly, I would love to use the margins available in products to do even more social good with each sale. So not only are the individual brands doing social good, but they are also doubling or tripling their impact on social good causes across the globe.

I would love to know what the Pioneer community thinks of this route for my business. I am happy to answer any questions here and get the conversation going. I am very passionate about doing as much good as possible in my lifetime. I would love to hear any and all input, good, bad, or ugly. Thanks so much for your time, and I look forward to hearing from everyone :)

Hi Corina, I think the concept you have is with very clear and good intention.. My suggestion however would be to decide how large an impact you wish to make. More often then not non profits wither away in time. I would recommend donating a portion of your profits to organizations that resenates to you. It shall also allow you to grow a great business and continue to impart benefits to charity. Hope this gives you a different perspective to a great concept.
